Dr. Ray Baker

Dr. Ray BakerDr. Ray Baker began his medical career in 1976, practicing Family Medicine and Occupational Medicine in a small B.C. mining town. Within 10 years, showing the classic symptoms of burnout and drinking much more than was good for him – he was neither happy nor healthy. Ray took a sabbatical, got some good help, regained his health, and became trained in addiction medicine. He designed and directed (and won a national award for) UBC’s Addiction Medicine Curriculum. He authored a chapter on Alcoholism for Conn’s Current Therapy, 2002 edition.

His main vocational focus is working with corporations and organizations to improve the early detection, intervention, and the rehabilitation of personnel whose attendance, performance, behaviour, or safety has been impaired by substance use or one of the invisible disabilities – including burnout. When not training for his next marathon or working in his South Surrey yard, Ray can be found at his Richmond office struggling to maintain balance, healthy boundaries, and a measure of grateful serenity in his life.
